# Hobbies

I have a hyper black lab mix, so he takes up most of my time. But when we're not out on walks, I try to keep up with my hobbies.

# Writing

I've written an entire book and scrapped it. Maybe I'll get back to it one day. I wrote it at the height of the young adult novel craze.

Most recently I've been working on an idea I describe as a mix between Nancy Drew and Murder She Wrote. I have an idea and hope to finish it within a reasonable timeframe. I've always wanted to see what self-pubishing is all about.

# Photography & travel

As a kid, I poured over National Geogrpahic magazines and had big dreams to become a NatGeo photographer and writer. While I never quite got there, I did take a film photography class in college and got myself a nice DSLR after landing my first job.

I've been to a dozen states and two dozen countries, and I've taken tens of thousands of photos over the years. Some are great, some are bad. Most are better than average. And for a very brief period of time, a photograph I took in Iceland was selected as a hero image for a National Geographic blog post.

I still have my film and DSLR cameras and toy with the idea of photographing local spots and posting them to an anonymous Instagram account.

# Trivia

I played pub trivia with a team every week for years in Boston. We were always a top 3 team. I kept playing in Amsterdam with an equally talented team, and am hoping to find a new team in Rhode Island. I watch Jeopardy every chance I get.

# Volunteer work

I try to find ways to be involved in my commumity. Currently, I participate with a local organization (opens new window) for beach clean-ups around the state.

I've previously volunteered with the Boys and Girls club of Denver to teach kids the basics of coding. I've also volunteered my time to a nonprofit whose goal is to get green burial laws (opens new window) passed in every state.

# Light reading

I browse a lot. Here's a list of the best content I've found on the internet.
